Joe Man Murphy is known to most as a singer, guitarist and songwriter of highly successful Australian band, The Timbers. Joe Man has so far released 2 records with The Timbers and 2 solo albums performing to thousands across Australia.
Joe began playing guitar at five years old coming from a very musical family. Growing up in the UK and Ireland and playing in bands throughout Dublin in the 2000s before Emigrating to Australia in 2005. Joe quickly became part of the Adelaide music scene and released his first solo album in August 2009 titled ‘The Children of the Stoned Age’. It was produced by Anthony Stewart at Red Brick Music with a band made up of some of Adelaide’s finest musicians, featuring Dan Seymour (Heather Frahn Trio), Kiah Gossner (Bearded Gypsy Band & Conchillia) and Tim Moors.
In 2012 Joe’s music career took a new direction after meeting The Timbers through the Adelaide music scene. Their music was a perfect fit with Joe bringing many of his songs to the band giving an extra energy to an already high energy band. The result has been four years of festival party sets all over the country. Highlights included: 2016 Port Fairy Folk Festival, 2016 National Folk Festival, 2014 Caloundra Music Festival. During this time Joe has also consistently played solo shows and toured in solo mode when not busy with The Timbers, supporting some world renowned artists like Daniel Champagne, Andy White and Vorn Doolette to name a few. Joe Man’s Solo music brings together a unique guitar style blending fingerpicking and tapping with a stomping beat. The songs are performed with an energy befitting the stories of life on the move. Joe Man’s new solo album Mrs Sunshine is set for release over the next few months. Constantly writing while on tour Joe Man started to explore some different sounds and grooves for the follow up to The Children of the Stoned Age. The self recorded album features 8 tracks written over the last few years and mixed on the road throughout the Timbers Restless tour.
